Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance Wins Elevation Award from Durability + Design Magazine
11/6/2017
BEACHWOOD, Ohio – Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance is the proud recipient of Durability + Design (D+D) Magazine’s first Elevation Award for Roof Coatings (Technical Category). The award honors the renovation of the 340,000-square foot roof of Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, with AlphaGuard BIO.
“Durability + Design launched the Elevation Awards competition this year to honor architects, interior designers, painting contractors, decorative artisans, manufacturers and suppliers for the outstanding work they do,” said D+D editor Amy Woodall in an article announcing the winners. “The seven winners of the 2017 Durability + Design Elevation Awards exemplify what is possible on both fronts when it comes to coatings selection and application — as well as the skill required of coatings contractors when faced with complex project environments and high client expectations.” The article is available at http://www.durabilityanddesign.com/archive/index.cfm?fuseaction=view&articleid=6166.
The massive Ford Field roof renovation project required very complex staging of both material and manpower. After performing comprehensive diagnostics of the 14-year-old PVC single ply roof and finding minimal damage, Tremco Roofing recommended restoring the roof instead of replacing it. Spot repairs were made, the roof cleaned with the environmentally-friendly RoofTec™ system, and the durable AlphaGuard BIO fluid applied system installed. The Ford logo, in Ford Blue, was added in two locations. In addition to waterproofing the roof, AlphaGuard BIO’s highly reflective topcoat can help reduce energy use as it absorbs much less heat than a traditional black roof. The project was completed in about 60 days, compared to a possible nine months for replacement.
“We want to thank Durability and Design Magazine and the judges for selecting us for the Elevation Award,” said Chuck Fitzgerald, Tremco Roofing’s Director-Fluid Applied Development. “The Ford Field project was exceptional, but beyond that, it shows our commitment to restoring roofs wherever possible. Restoration is much more sustainable than replacement because the existing roof membrane is significantly upgraded, not torn off and sent to landfills. This long-term approach to extending the life of the roof, instead of replacing it, delivers maximum value with a significant reduction in cost.”
